Aftertouch is extremely sensitive to the shape of the keybed. Its regulation must therefore be done with the action in the piano. However, we have invested in a workshop system that allows the action cavity’s features to be replicated on our regulating workstation in the workshop — exact string heights for each section of the keyboard, and shape of the keybed. The regulating station gives well-lit 360º access to the action at adjustable height. Sight lines are much better than in the piano, and that means greater accuracy when regulating.

Working on-site presents a logistical challenge and disruption to the customer. A mini-workshop would have to set up in the vicinity of the piano, containing the necessary tools, equipment and supplies. The work generates waste in the form of fine wool dust, wood dust and lead shavings. These are potential health hazards that we will not risk exposing the customer and family to.
