In 2019, circumstances gave me the opportunity to step away from my roles as a consultant in the IT industry and as an IT professor in the National University of Singapore. I took a slightly early retirement to pivot towards the item that had been at the top of my bucket list for at least a couple of decades, which was to become a piano technician. I could satisfy three lifelong interests simultaneously — the piano, my fascination with machines and how they worked, and working with my hands. So, 88Keys was registered as a business in January 2020, with the simple goal of helping piano owners access as much of their instruments’ musical potential as possible, regardless of make, model or price.
